Become a Top Communicator and Leader through Toastmasters
Author: Sandra Savage
My first experience with Toastmasters was when I was 15 years old and a waitress at my mom's restaurant in Crystal, Minnesota. Every week, in the banquet room, a Toastmasters club met where Hubert H. Humphrey (who later became the 38th Vice President of the United States) gave a number of speeches I had the privilege of hearing (while trying to be a good waitress).
After moving to California, I was asked to start a Toastmasters club at Frame Technology (which was later acquired by Adobe Systems). It was amazing to see that the engineers who regularly participated in speeches during weekly meetings became the folks who were promoted, and recognized, within the company -- and were also asked to be the voice of the company when talking with Steve Jobs, Scott McNealy, Bill Joy and many other Silicon Valley luminaries of the 1990s.
I recently joined City Speech Toastmasters and was also a Pathways Ambassador and Guide. I've completed the Visionary Communication path, and am half-way through the Presentation Mastery path. I'm now embarking on Motivational Strategies path.
